Fancy a career change? Then take the Scania Driver Experience

The Scania Driver Experience – in which Scania (Great Britain) Limited is investing over £600,000 – is the company's own truck and bus driving tuition programme and the only driver training scheme operated by a global vehicle manufacturer.

"The Scania Driver Experience is not only available to Scania customers but is designed to provide a bespoke range of training courses dedicated to promoting excellence among those wishing to learn and experienced drivers alike," says Mark Agnew, Manager Scania Driver Experience.

The Scania Driver Experience operates through four regional locations covering the South West (Bristol), South East (Purfleet), North (Sheffield) and Scotland (Edinburgh) and employs local people to deliver the training. With dedicated training facilities inside each of these Scania centres and with a team of DSA (Driving Standards Agency) registered senior driver trainers, the scheme can train 600 people per year for a new career as a professional driver in rigid and articulated vehicles. The training team can boast some 150 years of combined experience. The first driver to qualify through the Scania Driver Experience was Steven Scarfe from Sheffield.

In addition to Large Goods Vehicle (LGV) and Passenger Carrying Vehicle (PCV) driving licence instruction, the courses include new driver (CPC) Certificate of Professional Competence related tuition and training on digital tachographs. Courses on the European working time directive, mechanical handling and driver familiarisation are also offered. The Scania Driver Experience can even train you for a light van and trailer test.

"The Scania Driver Experience is the latest aspect of our total approach to road safety and high productivity. Well trained drivers cost the vehicle operator less in fuel and mechanical wear, increasing the vehicle's cost-effectiveness," says James Armstrong, Aftersales Director Scania (Great Britain) Limited.
