First Scania Omnicity Double Deckers for London United
The first Scania OmniCity double deck buses for London are set to enter service later this year following an order for 15 from London United, the bus operator serving central and south west London. Being supplied by Scania Bus and Coach, the vehicles are scheduled to be delivered in two batches during August and October.
The first seven buses will work on London United's prestigious route 148 running through central London, with the remaining eight operating in other areas of the network.
The Scania OmniCity is supplied as a complete vehicle by Scania with a low-floor and a low overall height. The vehicle has an overall height of 4.2m and fully meets the Capital's low bridge clearance criteria. The London United vehicles are all being fitted with 230 horsepower Scania DC9-01 engines with pollution-reducing CRT filters and fully automatic five-speed ZF 5HP502 gearboxes.
"As a complete package, the Scania OmniCity offers considerable advantages," comments London United's Engineering Director, Les Birchley. "This includes only having to deal with a single supplier which, in the case of Scania, has the engineering and technical expertise to develop the product to meet our needs. It also means that Scania quality is built into both the chassis and the body, resulting in a vehicle that is both operator- and customerfriendly.
"Add to that the anticipated fuel efficiency and reliability of Scania buses, both of which are well proven within our existing fleet, and we believe the new OmniCity will deliver an exceptional package of benefits to London United and our customers."
