UK’s 1,000th low floor double-deck Scania bus enters service

The 1,000th low floor Scania double-deck bus to arrive in the United Kingdom has recently entered service with Go-Ahead member company Metrobus, the same company which took delivery of the UK’s very first Scania low-floor double-decker back in 2003. To commemorate the occasion, a special handover ceremony was arranged beneath Constitution Arch in central London.

While the first UK Scania low-floor double-decker was an OmniDekka fitted with East Lancashire Coachbuilders bodywork, the 1,000th is a Scania OmniCity model, which is entirely designed and built by Scania.

“The delivery marked an important milestone, both for ourselves and Metrobus, and team members past and present from our two organisations came together to celebrate in the heart of the Capital,” comments Mark Grant, Bus, Coach and Engine Sales Director for Scania (Great Britain) Limited.  “As well as serving Londoners, this latest generation vehicle is now in service with operators throughout the United Kingdom.”

“We were delighted to join Scania in celebrating its 1,000th low floor double-deck bus entering service,” says Kevin Carey, Operations Director for Metrobus.  “We have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with Scania, who consistently deliver a product which meets the exacting demands of the traveling public, while also providing a good level of reliability and product support.”
