Richard A. Lomas takes the prize at Scania's eBay charity auction
...but safety wins the day as one of his top performing drivers is rewarded!
Richard A. Lomas, Managing Director of Buxton, Derbyshire-based Lomas Distribution Limited has emerged as the top bidder in Scania's eBay charity auction for a VIP Experience for four at the forthcoming UK Final of Young European Truck Driver, to be held at the Heritage Motor Centre, Gaydon, Warwickshire on Saturday 26 June.
Mr Lomas's winning bid of £302.67 succeeded in the face of competition from a host of other bidders all vying for this unique and valuable prize. The entire amount will now be donated to the BBC's Children In Need appeal.
"I am absolutely delighted to have won the auction and to be lending my support to this extremely worthwhile cause," says Richard A. Lomas. "But I won't be using the tickets myself as we have decided they should go as a reward to one of our top performing and safest drivers. In common with Scania, safety is at the forefront of all our operations. It seems fitting, therefore, that a driver of ours with an excellent safety record should benefit from this exciting prize."
Lomas Distribution Limited is a bulk power transportation specialist operating approximately 80 Scania vehicles, which are supplied to the company by Scania dealer Keltruck Limited.
Organised by Scania and supported by Michelin, the 2010 Young European Truck Driver is the world's largest road safety and driving skills competition, with qualifying events currently taking place across Europe. At the 2010 UK Final, contestants will pit their skills against each other in a range of independently adjudicated truck driving exercises and manoeuvres. The overall winner of this event will go forward to the European Final of the event, to be held in Sweden in October, where the competition's top prize of a brand new Scania R-series truck will be awarded.
