75 high-spec Scania EGR tractor units for R. T. Keedwell
Highbridge, Somerset-based transport and distribution specialist, R. T. Keedwell Group, has opted for 75 Scania EGR tractor units as the company begins to renew and extend its fleet with Euro 4 trucks. Supplied by Scania (Great Britain) Limited’s Bridgwater depot, the order marks the continuation of a business partnership between R. T. Keedwell and Scania which dates back to 1970.
“Our long-standing relationship with Scania has been built on quality, both of the Scania product itself and the service we receive from our local dealer,” comments R. T. Keedwell Director Stuart Keedwell. “But with Euro 4 another factor has now come into play: SCR or EGR? As a result of what we have seen so far, we certainly don’t want to be involved with AdBlue until it is necessary. There haven’t been any fuel benefits with SCR in our own trials, in fact I can’t see any benefit – short term. To me, SCR just means extra aggravation and unless there was a big financial benefit – which we simply cannot see, we just wouldn’t go for it. The Scania’s were the best on fuel." The 75 vehicles in the order are all Scania Topline-cabbed R 420 6x2/4MNA twin-steer tractor units. Destined to be based at R. T. Keedwell’s ten depots around the country, the vehicles will cover an anticipated 160,000km a year on general haulage duties. Deliveries begun in July with 45 trucks scheduled for 2007 and the remaining 30 due in January/February 2008.
