Mr Cameron was especially interested in gathering the views of Training Instructors and Apprentices on the Apprentice Programme operated by Scania, which recently became the first commercial vehicle manufacturer to be awarded the Learning and Skills Council Training Quality Standard.

"We discussed a number of topics, ranging from the Scania Apprentice Programme itself to the importance of skilled automotive technicians to Britain's economy today," says Mark Oliver, Technical Services Manager for Scania (Great Britain) Limited.  "Mr Cameron raised the issue of the role schools play in helping to feed the transport industry with a flow of suitable trainees and was particularly keen to know what more could be done in this respect."

The Training Quality Standard
The Training Quality Standard is an assessment framework and certification process created by the Learning and Skills Council to recognise and celebrate organisations delivering training-excellence.  In winning the award, the Scania Apprentice Programme was recognised as a clear leader in its field in terms of its approach to training solutions, developing key skills and focusing not only on attaining results but also maximising Apprentices' potential.
