Wreford's Transport celebrate with Scania EGR
Old-established Northampton-based family firm Wreford's Transport has celebrated the contribution made by its long-serving drivers with the purchase of its first Scania truck, a Topline-cabbed R 420 6x2/4MNA twin-steer tractor unit with a 420hp Euro 4 Scania EGR engine.
Supplied by the Wellingborough branch of TruckEast, the Scania dealer for the northern Home Counties and East Anglia, the new vehicle will be driven by Brian Chapman, who has spent 37 years in total with Wreford's Transport. But the family connection doesn't end there as Brian's grandfather Frank became one of the firm's earliest employees when he was recruited by founder Silvanus William Wreford way back in 1904, two years after the company was formed. "Brian is one of several long-serving drivers at Wreford's Transport and the addition of this flagship model Scania truck recognises the important role they play within the business," comments the company's Managing Director, Mike Wreford. "In terms of why we have purchased Scania, EGR was an important consideration as we don't want to be troubled with the extra burden of fuel additives." With its headquarters in the Far Cotton area of town, Wreford's Transport is one of the best known haulage names in Northampton. With a fleet of 100 vehicles currently in operation, the company offers a full range of transport, distribution, logistics and storage services.
